I now have just over a week before I leave for my trip, and I'm taking care of a few last minute preparations. At the moment, I'm blacking out my tapes for filming. This consists of filming over them from start to finish so that when I go back to use them later I don't have any breaks in time code. This isn't a big deal for smaller projects, but when you're working with hours and hours of footage, and multiple cameras, inconsistant time code can give you big headaches in the editing stage.
Now I just need to get my car inspected, find my digital camera, do some last minute shopping and put together these town and city bios....among other things.
Rather than try to come up with everything right now, I'll just keep updating about my trip preparations as them come, for all you analytical types who are more interested in the process of this whole venture.

what are you using to film all this on? considering my major was broadcast journalism, i just got finished spending the better part of 4 years filming and editing every single day.
My two video cameras. One is a Canon Optura 40 and the other is an older Sony Handycam that uses 8mm film. The Canon uses mini-DVs, which are pretty standard now. That will be my main camera for the trip since it is a relatively new model. I considered buying a better camera for the trip, but I couldn't justify it since I already have two...well, three if you include the 1970s super 8 silent film camera I bought at the thrift store for 5 dollars. But I don't.
